If you've owned a pair of jeggings or stretchy skinny jeans, you'll know the frustration that comes when they get stretched out. With pants like this, you really want them to fit well, so when they are stretched or are just too big, they fall down and look terrible. I had a virtually new pair of skinny jeggings and then I went and lost a few kgs- suddenly my pants didn't fit me anymore. What a waste! I didn't want to buy new right away, but I also couldn't bear having to yank on my trousers all day long. So I decided to try and take them in.

This method is best if your pants do not have a zip crotch, and if they have a good stretch to them. I wouldn't recommend doing this method for other trousers or jeans.
If you don't want to alter your own pants, or if you need to buy a new pair, you'll find links to buy them at the bottom of this post.
You'll need thread that matches your pants. Mine were black- easy!
Put the pants on inside out. Pull them to the height that you would like them to be. I like a higher waisted jegging. Once they are the right height, you'll see extra fabric around the waist and hips. Hold this extra fabric out to the side and fold it together, so the existing side seam of the jeggings is right on the fold. Pin the folded section right at your body. If you want them to be tight, pull the fabric out slightly so that you're getting a really tight fit. Repeat on the other side.
Take the pants off. Sew up the line where you pinned from the top down until you gradually meet the original seam. I usually use a straight stitched for this, but you could defintely use a serger or overlocker if you have one. Try the pants on. If you're happy with the fit, take them off again, and trim your new seam allowance. Finish off the seam with a zigzag stitch, paying extra attention to the top of the jeggings where the elastic is- you don't want this pulling apart when you sit down!
Ta da! My too-big jeggings now fit me perfectly and are really comfortable to wear all day.
